Looking back over 600 years

THE story of Rastrick going back over 600 years was told in words and action when a pageant was presented at St Matthew's Church, Rastrick.

More than 200 people attended two evening performances when people of all ages from the church, the uniformed organisations and Rastrick Independent School, outlined the history of the area, how it has developed, when the first church was built and the changes that have taken place since then.

Written by church member Mr Jim Farrer and produced by Mr Brian Spence and Mr Iain Bedson, the story was narrated by Mr Bedson and Mrs Jean Campsall.

The pageant was first presented in 1978 and has been repeated every 10 years since then.

“Each time the story is brought up to date and no doubt will be presented again in another 10 years,” said Mr Spence. “We had two successful performances which everyone appeared to enjoy.”
