Little Star Ethan enjoying life to the full after battle

A BRAVE youngster who went through months of intense chemotherapy has been honoured for his fight against cancer.

Ethan Wells of Towngate Avenue, Clifton, has been presented with the Cancer Research Little Star award, for the time he spent in hospital last year.

The five-year-old was diagnosed with lymphoma in May 2011 after mum Faye took him to the doctor’s because he had been feeling unwell.

He was taken Calderdale Royal Hospital before being transferred to Leeds General Infirmary where he was started on treatment.

Mrs Wells said that it took time for the news to sink in and to get into a routine of the treatments needed but it just became a way of life.

“Ethan and all the children who were having treatment are just an inspiration. When they were in hospital in Leeds, they were always smiling and having fun, even with them having to pull their drip around with them.

“Everybody was fantastic from the moment we walked into the GP to when he finished his treatment and came home. We can’t thank the nurses and doctors enough.”

Now, after three months of intense treatment and three operations, he is now in remission.

During his course of chemotherapy, Ethan was still able to perform his duty as a page boy at his uncle’s wedding.

He was also able to start school St John’s Primary Academy, Clifton, in September with the rest of his friends.

Dad Simon, who works at Bradford Academy, said: “It was fortunate that Faye was still on maternity leave when we found out and and the school were just brilliant in allowing me to do what I needed.

“We still need to go back every four weeks or so for check ups but it is nice to get back to life as normal as it can be,” he added.
