Former Brighouse High School pupil, Katie Ingham, was brewing up a storm as she raised funds for her trip to Uganda.

The 18-year-old had organised a Kilimanjaro Koffee Morning at Lower Wyke Moravian Church to help her raise £5,400 so she can travel to Uganda in August and become a volunteer teacher. While out there for 12 months she will teach at a local primary school and help in the community with other clubs as well as setting up extra curriculum ones for the children.

Katie said the event was a success. “The Sunday school was in pristine condition, tea and coffee flowed freely, and the cakes were delicious. Beyond the choice that was offered with the drinks, a huge number of cakes had been given to raise extra funds. So not only did we have the door money, but also generous donations from the immense array of cakes.

“We had just under 60 people arrive and pay in at the door, most of whom stayed for the presentation.”

During the presentation, Katie showed something that had motivated her last year. This was Nick Vujicic ‘No arms, no legs, no worries’. She then gave a presentation entitled ‘Help me to help them - Katie’s story’. She explained how she had found out about it, and how things had progressed since being accepted at the selection course.

“Overall we had a fantastic time, and raised the amazing sum of £430.30. Many thanks to those who contributed in any way and to Di Hughes, Sheila Clough and Zoe Cooper who were in overall charge of preparations.”

Her next fund-raisers will be the Kilimanjaro Killer Cycle on Saturday, March 23.
