It’s all adding up at Rastrick

Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker talks to students in the new maths centre at Rastrick High School

Things are starting to add up at Rastrick High School as the new £2.2 million maths centre was opened.

Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker opened the facility and was joined by Rastrick councillor Christine Beal (Con). They met students leaders and students using the new centre and heard how much more inspirational it was to learn in modern classrooms than it was in the old temporary buildings.

Headteacher Steve Evans and Narinder Kaur, the subject leader, led the group around the building and saw students hard at work in the new rooms. Mr Whittaker joined in with some of the work being done but Mr Evans was unable to mark his efforts in time to pass a verdict. Mr Whittaker talked to students about their progress and targets and said how pleased he was that they could talk knowledgably about it and many had targets of A and A* for their GCSE maths exams.

Langtry Langton, the architects and Triton the contractors talked to Mr Whittaker and impressed upon him how it was possible to obtain good value for money by working with local professionals who were able to understand school’s requirements and work in confined and sloping sites.

The duo then joined in with the Children in Need fun.
