Ward Forum meetings are one of the ways in which communities, councillors, council officers and partner agencies such as our Neighbourhood Policing Teams can come together to discuss local issues, writes Coun Christine Beal (Con, Rastrick).
They currently take the form of quarterly evening meetings in each of our local wards – Brighouse, Hipperholme and Lightcliffe, and Rastrick - where issues can be raised and discussed and action taken as appropriate.
The communities scrutiny panel at council exists to examine and challenge policies and services within the communities directorate. They are presently seeking views on how these ‘community engagement’ meetings might be improved.
For instance, are they aptly named? Adequately publicised? Would changing the format encourage higher attendance amongst residents? Would it be better if they served different geographical areas, not electoral wards? Should they be at different times of day, or varying venues?
Whether you have ever attended any of these meetings or not, if you have any views on this and are willing to input them I’d like to hear from you.
