BRIGHOUSE gala committee is appealing for more volunteers or groups to come forward to help make it a success.
The committee covers all aspects of the gala which is set to take place on Saturday, June 29, and meetings are already being held in a bid to top last year’s event.
But in order to do this an appeal is being made for more help not only on the day of the event but also on the Friday and Sunday.
All the money raised from the event is divided between groups and organisations that take part.
At a recent committee meeting it was decided that help was needed to mark out the gala field and rope up the main arena, the dog show arena and the entrances, put up the marquees and gazebos and help show the charities to their site on the field.
They also need someone to act as the announcer on the main arena, help on the gates and clean up the waste and empty the bins.
After the event the marquees and gazebos need taking down, the field clearing and litter has to be picked up the following morning.
The committee needs someone to man the control tent and answer queries.
Grounds chairman Peter Edwards said any help that people could give would be greatly appreciated. “We are considering starting the procession earlier at noon from Garden Road, Brighouse, and we do need people to marshall the procession on its way down from Lane Head to Wellholme Park.
“These are just a few of the jobs that need undertaking during the gala weekend and if anyone would like to volunteer to help, the gala committee would be most grateful.
“We would discuss the tasks before the day and explain what is required.”
Last year just under £18,000 was distributed to local organisations and charities.
Asda handed over £4,000 for allowing them to put on there Asda Active campaign, Websters Insurance and the Brighouse Echo £10,000 giveaway in conjunction with the Community Foundation for Calderdale which the gala committee was successful in achieving. The event was a huge success and was the biggest gala to date.
