Have a heart, appeals pregnant protester

FIVE-months' pregnant protester Lynzi Waddington bared nearly all to publicise a campaign close to her heart.

Lynzi, 24, of Oaklands, Rastrick, joined four other demonstrators who hoped to catch the eye by stripping down to their smalls in a busy London street.

The quintet, who braved temperatures little above zero, were aiming to persuade upmarket chain store Selfridges to stop selling foie gras, an expensive type of pate made from duck or goose liver.

The protesters, who handed out chocolates and roses to passers-by, were representing PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

They paraded outside Selfridges' flagship store in Oxford Street for 40 minutes before they were moved on by police.

"I think we got our point across," said Lynzi, who said the reaction from the public, if not store bosses, was very positive.

"Stripping off to do it certainly attracts attention. There must have been between 30 and 40 photographers recording the event."

Lynzi, a former student at Rastrick High School, defended stripping off on a freezing February day while five months' pregnant. "I didn't feel the cold. The whole experience gives such an adrenaline rush," she said.

The former hairdressing trainee, who now wants to branch out into working in the media, said she felt strongly about the production and sale of foie gras.
