Freed from a ‘crashed car’
YOUNGSTERS experienced at first hand what it was like to be freed from a car by the emergency services.
Pupils from Brooksbank School, in Elland, joined members of the Lower Valley Neighbourhood Policing team, fire services and members of the community at a youth forum.
Held at the Bailiff Bridge Community Centre, the Year 7, 8, and 9 students got involved in discussing anti-social behaviour and how it could be tackled. There was also a video and talk over issues surrounding road safety.
Inspector Mohammed Nawaz, who heads the Lower Valley policing team said: “It was a productive session with the pupils discussing the problems surrounding anti-social behaviour and the impact it has on them, on others, and in the future.”
After lunch, the group watched a demonstration carried out by Brighouse fire crews as Year 9 pupils Celine Kart and Aaron Dorwood were freed from a car.
Firefighters used heavy duty cutting equipment to remove the car’s roof and showed the how passengers were removed from the car if they were in an accident.
Malcolm Silkstone, chairman of the Bailiff Bridge Community Association said the road safety discussion was very informative and should be extended to adults.
