Entrepreneur shares his passion for business

A YOUNG Brighouse entrepreneur has appeared in front of 40 ambassadors from Europe, Western Asia and North Africa.
Jacob Hill appeared at a pre gala dinner last night in Brussels to speak about his success with business The Lazy Camper, which is a complete outdoors kit with everything needed in one bag, perfect for festivals.
The 20-year-old shared his story about how he started with his entrepreneurial flair at the age of 14, when he began selling sweets at Brighouse High School. He grew this hobby into a business by acquiring staff, locker space and spreading to other schools throughout the area. Eventually he was making more than £1,000 per week.
Having left school, Jacob then went on to organise local music events for students aged 16-18 as reported by the Brighouse Echo. This business ran for two years until a new law forced the events to close.
At the age of 18 he faced his first failure and now had the challenge of living with a £3,000 debt.
But through some hard work and determination Jacob paid off his debt and rather than feeling disheartened and giving up, Jacob was motivated further to make a success of himself.
In just eight months, Jacob raised £30,000 of investment from fellow students at the University of Huddersfield where he is studying Enterprise Development, a course which is endorsed by Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis.
He has pitched his idea to Sir Richard Branson, Jamal Edwards and Richard Read. He represents Virgin Media and Intuit as a Yorkshire Ambassador and is currently in talks with California and South Africa to take The Lazy Camper global.
Yesterday he advised the European Union about how it could contribute towards excellence in entrepreneurship and enterprise skills.
Jacob was invited to join SimVenture in speaking at the EU after CEO Peter Harrington, saw him speak at the John Smith Stadium, Huddersfield.
“What an amazing opportunity this is,” said Jacob, who lives in Waring Green.
“A year ago I would never have imagined I would be speaking at the EU in Brussels. I just hope I do a good enough job that they will bring me back.”
Jacob has experience in motivating audiences of all ages. Regularly speaking at schools, colleges and stadiums.
Most recently, Jacob spoke at The Institute of Directors in London after being recognised as one of the UK’s youngest import and exporters.
