Five Brighouse schools joined other Calderdale schools in the Dress Down for £1 fundraiser to raise money for Ravenscliffe High School, Halifax.

Pupils at Brighouse High School, Rastrick High School, Highbury School, William Henry Smith School and Cliffe Hill Community Primary School, Lightcliffe, wore casual clothing and donated £1 towards the Ravenscliffe @Spring Hall community campaign to raise money for Calderdale’s only special high school. Between the schools, they raised more than £2,000.

The school aims to build a new sixth form and community centre site at nearby Spring Hall, Huddersfield Road.

Ravenscliffe High School head teacher Martin Moorman said: “The level of support we have received has been astonishing. Over 40 schools now have a better understanding of the needs of the students at Ravenscliffe and, at a time when young people often receive negative press, it’s fantastic to recognise their positive commitment to our community.”
