A couple taking their camper van out for a drive to make sure it was running normally before a trip this weekend had to call fire crews after smoke started coming from it on the M62 near Brighouse last night.

The pair had been from Leeds to Saddleworth Moor and were heading back towards Leeds on the eastbound carriageway when they were forced to pull over when they saw the smoke just after Hartshead Moor Services at around 8.20pm.

By the time firefighters from Elland and Brighouse arrived, it was well alight and was left severely damaged.
