Members and supporters of Lightcliffe Cricket club have given a welcome boost to the club.

Michael Brooke from the Wakefield Road team passed on his thanks to 56 people who supported the quiz night on Saturday evening and helped raise a few hundred pounds for the club coffers.

It was an enjoyable evening in the Community Hall at St Matthew’s Church.

The winning team, after a dramatic tie break, was led over the line by captain Bob Horne who was well supported by others including former players Bruce Deadman and Peter Westerby.
It was heartbreak for Brucie Lunn and Kev Booth’s team, who have tasted glory so many times at previous quiz nights.
Michael said: “A huge thank you must also go to Angela Monaghan for serving up the pie and peas supper, to family butcher Brian Powe for his excellent pies, and to everyone who helped organise the evening.

“Also, it was fantastic to see a good turnout of committee, players and supporters of the club.

“The annual quiz is one of the club’s looked forward to fixtures on the social calendar.”
The next club social is the Spring Ball on April 6 at Crow Nest Park Golf Club.

“We have viewed the new extension that has been built at the golf club and it is fantastic, definitely the place to be, so we booked it for the social.

“There will be a formal dinner with some live music,” said Michael.

As the racing season prepares for one of its biggest weeks in the calendar, Lightcliffe CC is yet again holding its Cheltenham Festival competition.

You pay £5 and pick one horse everyday and there are prizes for daily winners and the weekly winner with a runner-up.

“It’s just a bit of fun at the club in what is a highlight of the racing season,” added Michael.
