Brakes put on cycle circuit race for 2013

A popular cycle race that made a triumphant return around the town centre streets has been postponed for 2013.
The VS Cycles Brighouse Circuit Race made its comeback in the British Cycling calendar last year after a two year abscence.
However, organisers of the event that saw the country’s top riders and teams competing have been told they are not able to hold the race this year.
Chris Vokes, from VS Cycles and part of the organising team that helped bring back the racing spectacle said: “We did ask British Cycling if they would include our event in the National Series on July 9.
“But I was told they had already selected the venues for this year. It would have been fantastic to have held it in Brighouse again.”
The popularity of the event, which was held between 2007 and 2009, had not dwindled as thousands of spectators lined the track.
Michael Lever, another member of the organisng team from VS Cycles said: “It is very disappointing that we don’t have a date for this year.
“We thought after last year’s successful event, with a huge crowd and good support from our sponsors, that British Cycling would continue backing Brighouse, unfortunately not.
“We are hopeful that we can bring it all together again for 2014 in the Tour de France year, as surely cycling will be the non-stop topic, especially in the summer months when the world’s largest free to watch sporting event hits the roads of Yorkshire.”
“We will no doubt have to liaise carefully with British Cycling about 2014 and Brighouse, but fingers crossed it will make a return.”
