Best foot forward to raise funds for African school
Year six students at Lightcliffe CE Primary School, who are walking to raise money for a school in Mara, Tanzania.
Youngsters laced up their walking boots as they ‘climbed’ Africa’s highest mountain.
Children from Lightcliffe CofE School, took part in a sponsored Mount Kilimanjaro walk to raise money for Mara Primary School.
Year Six pupils hiked around the school field the total distance it would take to walk up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania - a total of 5,895 metres.
The class has been studying mountains and volcanoes as part of their geography topic this half term and thought it would be a good opportunity to raise funds for their partner school.
The Knowle Top Road school has been supporting the Mara Primary school based in Nyamatare, near the town of Musoma in Tanzania, for many years.
Over the years St Matthew’s Church at Lightcliffe and the school have raised money through fund raising events to help support the teaching and learning at Mara Primary school. This has meant that the school has been able to build a toilet block, erect a wall around the school and buy desks, books and stationary.
