Bands join in the festivities: School showcases talent in B. & R.concert

BRIGHOUSE and Rastrick Band are back on familiar territory in the run-up to Christmas with a busy round of concerts close to home.

The band's busy engagements have taken them away from West Yorkshire this autumn but they'll be celebrating the festive season with a return to their roots.

Starting with a concert at the Gracie Fields Theatre in Rochdale on December 5, B & R will also be in action in Brighouse, Huddersfield, Harrogate and Buxton.

Young musical talent has become a significant feature of the Brighouse concert and this year students from Brighouse High School will appear alongside the band at the concert at Central Methodist Church on December 12 at 3pm.

Taking part will be the school's wind band led by Trevor Thristan and the funk band led by Patrick Eady who will contrast well with the majestic sounds of B & R. The concert will include classic Christmas tunes and some items from the modern repertoire.

Also in action with B & R on December 12 will be 14-year-old Jonathon Bates, the youngest recruit for many years who will be making his debut with the band. Jonathan, from Skelmanthorpe, has taken the first tenor horn seat after spells with his village band as well as Elland Silver and Carlton Main.

The teenager has made impressive progress since taking up a brass instrument only five years ago.

The concerts at Central Methodist Church on December 12 start at 3pm and 7.15pm and tickets are available from Fawcett's, Commercial Street, Brighouse, concert secretary David Howe on 01274 725332 or, for the matinee performance, from Brighouse High School.

B & R will also be in action with Colne Valley Male Voice Choir at Huddersfield Town Hall on December 13, at the Royal Hall in Harrogate on December 19 and at Buxton Opera House on December 20.

That's entertainment – verdict on B. & R.
