B & R misses out on hat-trick

BRIGHOUSE and Rastrick Band narrowly missed out on an historic hat-trick in the National Championships on Saturday.

The band, which won the prestigious title in 2010 and 2011, was hoping for a third triumph but lost out to Foden’s Band from Cheshire.

President Paul Beaumont said band members were disappointed but very proud of their performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

“The band’s performance was magnificent and there really was little to choose between the top places.

“We were delighted to have won for two years in a row and the band should feel proud of its achievement.”

4barsrest.com, the respected brass band website, described B & R’s performance as ‘stunning’ and there was rapturous applause from enthusiasts in the audience. Twenty Championship section bands competed, winning their way through to the finals through eight gruelling regional heats.

B & R will be in action at Huddersfield Town Hall with Rothwell Temperance Band on Saturday.
