B&R band keep their Whits to win contest

Brighouse and Rastrick brass band braved the elements as they celebrated winning the Saddleworth and Oldham Whit Friday Championship.

There are ten contests and Brighouse & Rastrick managed to play at eight in the time available.

Started at Lydgate at 4.00pm they played at Grotton, Lees & Springhead, Greenfield, Uppermill, Delph and Denshaw before finishing at Scouthead & Austerlands.

Time ran out before they were able to play at Diggle and Dobcross.

B&R finished in the top three for all eight contests with three wins, three seconds and two thirds in the popular contest.

The scoring system is one point for a win, two points for a second place, and the band with the least points from their best six contests is the overall winner.

B&R with three wins and three seconds scored nine points and The Fairey Band were in second place with 13 points.
