Author shares top tips

AUTHOR Berlie Doherty talked about her life and work to children at St Chad's CE Primary School, Hove Edge.

Pupils in Years Four, Five and Six, have been studying Berlie's book, 'Street Child'. She told them how she became a writer and how she uses her journal for ideas – which is what the children are encouraged to do.

Head teacher Graeme Genty said the children had enjoyed her visit and asked her questions about where she got her ideas from and why she decided to become a writer.

Developing reading and writing is one of the school's priorities and staff are keen to encourage authors to come to speak to the children.
