‘Amazing’ escape as driver crashes top-end Ferrari through wall - see picture
This Ferrari driver was left counting the cost after his top-of-the-range car crashed through a wall in Brighouse, causing thousands of pounds of damage.
The accident happened on Saturday morning at Halifax Road, Brighouse, and road safety campaigners say they are amazed that no-one was hurt in the incident.
But, despite the severity of the damage, campaigners say the crash will not feature on Calderdale Council’s accident statistics because no-one was injured and there were no witnesses.
The accident, between the junction of Maryville Avenue and Finkil Street, is the latest in a long line of incidents on the busy Halifax Road.
Campaigners have been trying to get speed cameras and other traffic-calming measures put in place but have been told there are not enough accidents to justify them.
Coun Colin Stout (Ind, Brighouse), who lives at Finkil Street, was one of the first at the scene of Saturday’s crash and saw the damage for himself.
“There were two children in the car and it’s just amazing that no-one was hurt. The wall was demolished and it took two days for the landowner to rebuild it.
“Hundreds of children use Halifax Road to get to school and it doesn’t bear thinking about what would have happened if this accident had been on a weekday.
“Only a fortnight ago - and just 100 yards from this accident - a car crashed into a bus-stop. Again no-one was injured so it won’t be recorded in the statistics but if someone had been waiting for a bus it could have been much more serious.”
Coun Stout said there were no speed cameras on roads in the Lower Valley and he would be calling for them to be installed as a matter of urgency.
“There are three speed cameras on the Calderdale Way where there are no pedestrians while busy roads in Brighouse are unprotected.
“I have asked Insp Nawaz of Brighouse Police to step up mobile patrols as soon as possible. We cannot wait for soemone to be killed or seriously injured.”
Coun Stout the way that accident data was compiled needed to be looked at.
