A glowing Ofsted report for school
PUPILS are performing well academically and are achieving above the national average at Rastrick Independent School.
Ofsted inspectors visited the privately-owned school and rated its early years foundation stage as 'outstanding' and the preparatory and grammar school 'outstanding' in most areas and 'good' in others.
Headmistress Susan Vaughey said: "I am extremely proud of our achievements as reflected in this report. It affirms our motto of 'Only the best for the best' and is a resounding accolade of our success in all aspects of our children's education."
She said parents who chose Rastrick did so secure in the knowledge that in all aspects of their child's learning – from birth to 16 – their child was nurtured in an environment which not only produced academic results, but educated them within a community committed to their whole development.
"My team and I are delighted to have this recognition from the Independent Schools Inspectorate and look forward to continuing this excellence," said Mrs Vaughey. "All of us – children, the teaching team, specialist support staff and our school community are delighted to have this resounding affirmation of our achievements. "
The school's particular strengths were developing skills in literacy, speaking, listening and numeracy, and results in national tests at the end of Year Two and Year Six over the three years from 2006 to 2008, were well above the national average.
Parents have expressed their appreciation of the strong and worthwhile values the school instills, which are were and supported by the staff who were excellent role models for the school.
The school was also successful in achieving its aim that the children should be happy and fulfilled, confident in their own self-respect and learning to respect others.
The quality of teaching in the prep school was good and occasionally outstanding. In the grammar school it was fully satisfactory and quite often good.
The qualities of relationships between staff and pupils, and between the pupils themselves were excellent and the outstanding standards of pastoral care and comprehensive measures to ensure pupils' welfare, health and safety were notable features.Discipline and behaviour throughout were excellent and the school had good links with parents and provided them with detailed information about the school and progress of their children.
The school had no major weaknesses but needed to delegate more responsibility to staff to reduce the headmistress's commitment to day-to-day management.
When funds allow, the school is recommended to upgrade its ICT provision in classrooms to provide more effective support for teaching and learning.
