A feast of comedy and music

MUSICAL performances by Midge Ure, Roger Davies and the Albion Band, comedy from Jeremy Hardy, Julian Clary and Rich Hall and a Christmas show from Halifax theatre company Northern Broadsides are among the highlights of the new season at the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield.

There are classic plays such as 'Billy Liar', starring Dicken Ashworth of 'Coronation Street' and 'Emmerdale' fame and Brighouse actress Janey Lawson, from Middle Ground Theatre Company from September 17 to 19 and 'Romeo And Juliet' and 'A Taste Of Honey' from Love and Madness theatre company from November 2 to 3. Northern Broadsides will present the ripping yarn 'Treasure Island' from December 8 to 19.

There will be plenty of laughs in the company of Edinburgh fringe favourite Rich Hall on September 26, Julian Clary on October 1 and Jeremy Hardy on November 27 and opera performances from Mid Wales Opera with 'The Marriage of Figaro' on September 12 and Music Theatre Wales with 'Letters Of A Love Betrayed' on November 5.

Huddersfield Jazz present various musicians through the season including the Snake Davies Quartet on September 26 and the Julie Edwards/Kevin Dearden Quintet on December 13.

Singer and songwriter Roger Davies will bring his brand of acoustic folk to the LBT on October 10, former Ultravox frontman Midge Ure will give an acoustic performance on December 5 and the Albion Band will be back for the ninth year to present their Christmas show on December 21.

The LBT's film season will include Ken Loach's 'Looking For Eric' starring Eric Cantona on September 15, 'Katyn' on October 2 and Audrey Tatou in 'Coco Before Chanel' on November 26.
