A big sister who walked five kilometres a day to raise money for her little brother’s special school delivered a cheque with pride to staff and pupils.

Eleven-year-old Zaina Lane walked every day in March to raise money for special play equipment for Highbury School, Lower Edge Road, Rastrick.

Little brother, Austin,4, and other children will benefit from stimulating outdoor play equipment which the school can now purchase from the £1,548.50 raised from family and friends who sponsored Zaina.

Head teacher Deborah Sweet, said: “I was amazed when I heard of Zaina’s commitment. This is a great achievement and shows such spirit and determination.

“The money will be used to improve the resources that our children play with in their outside area. I want to say a huge thank you and congratulations to Zaina who has proven herself to be a real friend of Highbury School.

“I am sure that this will not be the last we hear from this remarkable young lady.”
