A young Star Wars fan has seen his dream of building a Lego Death Star fall to pieces after the model was withdrawn from shop shelves,

Oliver Kenny has been working hard to raise money to buy himself the model but in the run up to Christmas it was pulled from shops.

The idea by mum Holly Jepson was to encourage him to learn the value of money and the seven-year-old has been carrying out jobs for family members and friends.

She said Oliver is a huge Star Wars fan even before the latest instalment of Star Wars - The Force Awakens with the Millennium Falcon and star destroyer already on his wish list.

“He has done brilliantly to raise the money and the idea was for him to appreciate his stuff more,” said Holly, from Mixenden.

“He understood it was something he would have to save for himself. We saw the product was on sale in November but had no idea that it would be withdrawn. When we realised we weren’t able to get it he was heartbroken. He has worked so hard.”

Normally retailing at around £350 the kit is one of the biggest ever produced by the world’s number one toy manufacturer. Most outlets are now selling the item at inflated prices with some owners of the model selling the product on eBay for £1,000.

Brighouse business Bricks4Kidz is now hoping to step in to find the model.

“Sadly we don’t have stock ourselves but we’re hoping that there’s a collector out there with a heart of gold and full of Christmas spirit,” said Bricks4Kidz co-owner Mark Pullen.

“Oliver has attended sessions with us and his energy and enthusiasm is infectious. It would be awesome if his hard work wasn’t in vain.”
