Brighouse bakers are giving TV’s Paul Hollywood a run for his money and putting bread-making on the map.

Community bakery LoveBread held a Christmas open day at its Martin Street premises and served up a variety of festive breads from around the world.

In addition keen bread-makers took part in Brighouse’s own Bake Off competition.

The winners were Liz Pearson (adult) and Matthew Johnson and Rose Tindal (juniors). The adult prize was a free one-year Bread Club membership and the juniors won a breadmaking party for themselves and three friends.

During the day, LBO Music Rooms presented music by local bands and Rastrick High School Chamber Choir. Castles Electric provided refreshments in aid of Overgate Hospice.

Carole Roberts, of LoveBread, said: “Adults and children had the opportunity to make and bake their own bread creations while LoveBread baker Richard Hickson demonstrated the art of good pizza making.

“Brighouse stollen was on sale as well as LoveBread’s latest special Christmas bread.”
