KEEN runners can enjoy the sights of Brighouse as the fifth Woodland Challenge comes to town.

Organised by the Stadium Runners, based in Huddersfield, the event sponsored by Fruity Pot will see athletes take on a challenging course with all the funds raised going to the Bradley Wood Scout Camp in Bradley Woods.

Taking place on October 21, race organiser Anthony Phillips said he hoped that the challenge would be well supported again.

“The run is just over 10km and there will be plenty of marshals from the club who will helping and supporting so nobody will get left behind.

“There will also be a fun run for children before the main race where each kid will get a medal and a little goody bag with donations from the Nisa store in Fixby.

“Last year nearly 100 competitors took on the one mile course lead by the Fruity Pot Fairy who flew up and down the course helping and encouraging the runners

“All the donations will be given to the scout camp so we hope to raise as much as we can and generally have a great day.”

No entry form is needed for the fun run, where children and families can just turn up on the day.

The race starts at 9.30am and fancy dress is welcome.

For the 10km competition, race registration starts at 8am in the scout camp site.

The race is chip timed so all runners will know what time they ran and will be published online.

Starting at the scout camp, the competition will see runners go alongside the canal, through some of West Yorkshire’s industrial heritage and crossing the M62.

The course is multi-terrain so depending on the weather prior to the race, suitable footwear is advised.

All finishers will receive an goody bag stacked full of goodies and a high quality technical T-shirt.

The scout camp car park will not be available on the day of the race, however there will be parking available at Bradley Business Park and at the High Park pub on Bradley Road.

Places are limited to 600 and the deadline for online entries closes on October 14.

Entries can also be submitted by post.
