More than £200 was raised for two charities at a special Brighouse Cinema screening of ‘The Calendar Girls’.
Members of Fixby WI gave their support by making and selling cakes and the WI choir entertained members of the audience at Brighouse Civic Hall before the film screening in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research started. The original ‘Calendar Girls’ from Rylstone WI in the Yorkshire Dales sent a message of support after being contacted by organiser Sue Bellamy.
Volunteers from Overgate Hospice posed for a photograph for the advertising poster and rented out cushions for the Civic Hall seats to raise £35 for their funds. In addition many people took advantage of a meal deal which offered ameal at a reduced price in a local restaurant with the cinema ticket - putting an estimated £500 into the night-time economy in Brighouse.
Sue said: “We would like to thank everyone who attended the screening and bought items to support the charity.”
l The next screening will be the Judi Dench film ‘Philomena’ on Tuesday, March 25 at Brighouse Assembly Rooms.
