Inside the Council: College is helping to get out youngsters ready for work

At the beginning of May I had the pleasure of visiting the Maltings College at the Fountains Head Village, formerly the Webster’s Brewery, along with my colleague Coun Graham Hall.

The College is focused on preparing young people aged 16-19-year-olds for the world of work, and specialises in delivering full time industry-specific courses and apprenticeship programmes in this fantastic state of the art building. The course tutors are highly experienced vocational experts with strong links to high calibrated industrial partners.

Working with local and national companies to ensure students gather the necessary skills, knowledge and experience that employers want from their workforce. I would like to thanks Liz Singleton, Principal Designate, and Holly Bottomley, chair of governors at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School, for arranging the tour of the college and for assisting in the up-skilling of Calderdale’s future young workforce.
