Inside the Council: Battling for vital bus route

Local people who live on the 258 bus route have been telling me how valuable a service it is to them and are concerned that its future be settled soon.

Residents will be aware that the 258 Clifton to Elland bus route is subsidised, with a two-year Calderdale Council grant.

The second year is now fast approaching and Community Transport Calderdale is
looking to ensure that there is an extension of this much needed and well used local service.

The present operator understands the needs of local people for this Metro Local route and wishes to work with the community to ensure that the service continues beyond its current contract.

I will keep an eye on the situation and will encourage all parties to secure this service for the future.

A good network of local, public transport is important to the area, and not just so that residents can get into town to do their shopping, or to visit friends.

Good transport links are essential in driving forward the economic well being of the area, enabling people
to access vital work opportunities right across the
district.
