A Rastrick woman has been honoured at the Celebrating Success 2013 NHS awards.

Zoe Smithurst, who has worked at the Trust for 21 years in gynaecology and cancer care, was presented with the award for Unsung Hero of the Year at the awards held at The Venue, Barkisland.

Zoe was nominated for “her pride and commitment at work”.

She said: “I am overwhelmed and very proud and very honoured to be part of a wonderful NHS Trust.”

The ceremony was hosted by chief executive Owen Williams and chairman Andrew Haigh.

Mr Williams told Zoe: “My deep-felt thanks go to you for the contribution you make to the lives of people in Calderdale and Huddersfield.

“Not just you, but also to your partners and your families as we all work together to care for our local people.”

The biggest cheer of the night was for Ward of the Year, Ward 4 at Calderdale Royal Hospital, for “consistently high performing in all areas of care for patients.”

Team leader Jayne Binns, said: “The hard work will continue. We have passion, we have motivation and we will be keeping focussed. We are passionate about our patients and also compassionate at all times.”

Presentations were also made to around 50 staff members who have, 25, 40 and – even 50 - years’ service. The top award of the night, the Gordon McLean award, went to Debbie Wolfe of Pye Nest.
