Incredible Edible Brighouse are calling on businesses and volunteers to help support their work in sprucing up the town centre.

The group was set up in 2013 and aims to plant fruit and vegetables in unloved and neglected areas in and around Brighouse.

It has worked in partnership with the Safer, Cleaner, Greener section of Calderdale Council, along with businesses such as Calder Valley Skip Hire and Kershaw’s Garden Centre. and has brightened up many of the raised beds in Brighouse town centre.

This year’s projects have included the planting of a community orchard at Wellhome and a one day makeover at Vale Street community garden.

Over the next few months they will be concentrating on the town centre as part of their bid to win the It’s Your Neighbourhood category of Yorkshire in Bloom.

Anyone who can spare an hour or two each fortnight to help plant new flowers or man the stall at one of their fundraising events, is welcome to attend a planting session at 6.30pm on Mondays and 11am on Sundays.

The group is also holding its annual community consultation evening and annual general meeting at 7.30pm on Tuesday, May 17 in The Link, Central Methodist Church, Brighouse, which includes a free plant and refreshments.
