It’s a Bank Holiday bonanza at The Beck on Bradford Road this weekend as landlord Adrian Whitworth hosts a beer and cider festival.

It will all commence from Friday at 3pm through to Sunday evening and is packed with food, drink and entertainment.

The ciders have all come from local producers within the Yorkshire region but the beers are from the length and breadth of the UK. From Perthshire to Devon, there will be a total of 16 ales all selling at once.

“We will have a marquee oustide and a covered outside bar. There will be ten ales serving at the outside bar and six ales inside on the pub bar at all times,” Adrian said.

There will be live entertainment outside until 8.30pm in the evening, starting on Friday with the ever popular Roger Davis, as well as Keith Stone acoustic and Chris Martin.

On Saturday from 2pm there is the Kirklees Brass Band followed by Peculiar Blue and Diamond Dac.

On Sunday local rock and roll band Blood, Sweat and Beers will be on stage from 4pm.

There will be a tombola stall and charity stand as this evening is supporting the Forget Ne Not Children’s Hospice and any monies raised on the day will all go to the charity.

Street food will be available with stands selling quality kebabs and curry with vegetarian options also available.

“It is promising to be a massive event. We have some quality ale, food and entertainment all lined up, which should make for a superb combination.

“I hope to see faces new and old at the pub,” Adrian said.

l Popped in to the Shepherds Arms last Friday at Cowcliffe to see brothers Karl and Michael Rowley some six months down the line.

Such is the reputation of the chefs, formerly on the Globe on Rastrick Common and The Rising Sun at Scholes, there wasn’t a cover available in the restaurant after 6.30pm.

“We are opening the restaurant Monday to Friday lunch 12-2pm, Monday-Tuesday evening 5-8pm, Wednesday-Thursday evening 5-8.30pm, Friday-Saturday evening 5-9pm, Saturday lunch 12-5pm and Sunday all afternoon 12-6pm,” said Karl.

“We are delighted to be seeing so many people come the short distance through the ford off Lightridge Road at Fixby from Rastrick and Brighouse to dine with us or just for a drink.

“Our menus vary and we carry daily specials from starters through to sweets.

“You may have seen as you came off the car park that we have ordered some large flower boxes as we intend to also add some colour to this beautiful hill top village.”
