FOUR women are organising a glittering ball to help servicemen and women injured in conflict.

After watching the Pride of Britain awards on TV last year Laura Downes decided to pay out for a £500 non-refundable deposit and booked The Venue, Bowers Mill, Barkisland.

And to help her, she has enlisted the help of three friends, Hollie Emmott and sisters Georgette Russ and Stevie Russ.

“They all agreed it was a worthy cause and were eager to help me organise the ball on October 22,” said Laura, of Northowram. “We just want to raise as much money as possible and hopefully with some good prizes for the raffle and auction we should be able to raise quite a bit.”

The 26-year-old wanted to raise funds for Help for Heroes last year but due to her studies at the University of Huddersfield she had to delay her plans for a year until she had some spare time.

There will be a champagne reception, a three-course meal and entertainment, which will include the band, Northern Glory and Pete Emmett as compere. Donated prizes include signed sporting memorabilia, a helicopter flight, hotel breaks and restaurant vouchers.

Tickets cost £35 per person or £300 for a table of ten and are available by emailling helptheheroescharityball@gmail.com or contact Laura on 07540 228031 or Hollie on 07887 664431.
