A 16-year-old girl suffered horrific injuries after being slashed across the face by a machete in an attack in Leeds.

The teenager is believed to have been targeted on Lingfield Drive, Moortown, after a fight with another girl yesterday.

Police were called at 8.26pm to reports that a girl had been struck across the face with a machete or similar weapon, suffering serious injuries.

She was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment and is in a stable condition today.

Det Insp Sean Duggan, of Leeds District CID, said: “This was clearly a very serious assault on a teenage girl who has received significant injuries.

“We have arrested two people in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing to trace further suspects.

“This appears to have been a targeted attack that may have resulted from an earlier fight involving the victim and another girl.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information that could assist the investigation.

“Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team have increased patrols in the area to reassure the local community.”
