Georgina Thornton has been selected as this year’s Brighouse Gala Queen.
The 17-year-old of Rastrick was last year’s attendant and came back to the auditions because she had had so much fun at the last Brighouse Charity Gala.
“I really enjoyed it last year and thought I would go back again,” she said. “I went over what I said last year and because the panel already knew me they didn’t need to ask me as many questions.”
Georgina who is studying a Btec in performing arts and an AS level in drama at Huddersfield New College said she thoroughly enjoyed waving to the crowds of people who lined the streets of Brighouse last year. “I just want to get to know everyone and get to know the charities and see how I can help them,” she said. “I can’t wait for the day.”
This year’s event will take place on Saturday, June 29, at Wellholme Park, Brighouse. “I was petrified when I went for my audition even though I did it last year. But you have just got to be yourself and that is what I did.
“I was thrilled when they said I had been selected and my mum, Jane, really wanted me to go for it and screamed when she found out.”
Georgina’s attendant will be Crystal Wheelhouse-Brown. The 19-year-old who attended Spen Valley Sports College, was encouraged to audition by her colleagues at Whiteheads Hairdressing for Men. “I’m very pleased to be the attendant and to be part of the Gala in June, it will bring out the best of Brighouse,” she said.
