A FORMER Rastrick schoolboy and Hipperholme Grammar School student has signed for Spanish giants Athletico Madrid.
Elliot Kebbie will be jetting off to take up a 18 month contract with the La Liga club.
The seventeen-year-old was spotted by scouts last year when he was playing in a competition for Barcelona’s Academy side.
“It’s just gone from there really as I have had keen interest over a three year period from Manchester United and Everton, and more lately Sunderland, Rangers, Celtic and French club Le Mans,” said Elliot. “In the case of Everton and Manchester United.
“I opted to stay at Leeds as there were complications with compensation and I was enjoying it there anyway.”
Since the age of seven he has been with Leeds United’s academy.
The right-sided player will now become a full time professional and take his chance with the reserve team.
At Hipperholme, he excelled on the athletics track, recording 10.8 seconds for the 100 metres.
Over the next 18 months he hopes to earn an extension and play for the first team in front of almost 55,000 fans at the Estado Vicente Calderon Stadium.
Elliot, will travel to the Spanish capital with his mum, Maggie, who will settle him in for a few days before she returns home.
“I cannot thank my mother enough for the way she has ferried me about for the last 10 years to training, matches and appointments and in some atrocious weather and I really want to repay her by making it to the very top in the game,” said Elliot. “This is the chance of a lifetime.”
