The family of a popular landlady have paid tribute after she died following a short illness.

Sue Harker, 53, had run the George Hotel, Commercial Street, Brighouse with her husband of 29 years, Dave Harker, since 2010.

The couple had returned from the holiday of a lifetime in Mexico when Sue was taken ill. She received treatment at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and died from natural causes on June 7, surrounded by family.

Her family said: “Her grandkids were her everything, she was a happy, lovely person. She loved cooking and baking and was popular wherever she went.

“She will be missed by a lot of people.” Sue leaves three children and three grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 19, at Park Wood Crematorium, Elland. Donations to Macmillan Cancer Support are welcome.
