The sun is shining and there is a smell of fresh sea air at the Harrison Lord Gallery as its new exhibition “Coastal” brings the seaside to Brighouse.

There are more than 50 new original paintings and prints on display for the exhibition, representing the British coastline. The central theme is the Yorkshire coast but the Welsh and Scottish coastline also feature with paintings of quaint Scottish harbour scenes and the North Wales resorts.

Gallery owner Steven Harrison Lord said: “I commissioned a group of our top artists to produce work on the theme of our wonderful coast and, as ever, they’ve come up trumps with a wonderful mix of exciting work.

“As an island race I think we all have some connection with the coast, whether it’s a day trip to Filey or messing around in boats, and this exhibition captures all that emotion.

“It’s bound to bring back happy memories and put a smile on your face.”

Headlining the show is work by gallery favourite Mark Sofilas. Originally from Australia, Mark sees the Yorkshire coast through new eyes and his paintings are full of colour and drama.

Other artists in the show include Sheila Venamore, whose vibrant harbour scenes are always a hit with collectors, and Stephen Todd, who references the history of the coast while painting in a modern, semi-abstract style.

There will also be work by Rachel Grant, Val Jordon, Barbara Renton-Wood, Ken Hammond and Bridget Wilkinson.

The exhibition is free to enter and runs until August 28. For more information, visit www.harrisonlord.co.uk.
