Budding David Attenboroughs and David Bellamys got a chance to explore the hidden aquatic wonders that live in the ponds of Cromwell Bottom near Brighouse.

Insect repellent was essential as parents and children went pond-dipping for insect larvae, newts and frogs in the local nature reserve.

The activity sessions were led by Julie Swift, Robin Dalton and members of Cromwell Bottom Wildlife Group. Julie said: “There is an amazing variety of wildlife in and around the ponds at Cromwell Botttom. The children had a great time.”

On Sunday July 28 from 10.30am Steve Blacksmith from Halifax Scientific Society will lead a walk around Cromwell Bottom looking at flowers and grasses. There will also be the chance to help with the annual butterfly count. The walk is suitable for families and children aged over 10.
