Spring is just around the corner, and Calderdale Council is preparing for a week of spring cleaning at sites across the borough.
After the success of last year’s campaign, the Big Clean 2014 campaign will kick off on Monday March 17 in the Lower Valley.
Council teams will spend a week cleaning up areas across Calderdale, to ensure the borough is looking its best.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Councillor Steve Sweeney, said: “The Big Clean week is a great way to raise awareness and target areas which are in need of tidying up.
“The campaign is about helping people make a difference to their communities. Calderdale is a great place to live and by working together we can make it even better.”
In the Brighouse Ward groups can meet at Church Lane Car Park outside St Martin’s Church.
Residents from Hipperholme and Lightcliffe can meet at the car park on Wakefield Road next to Tesco while the meeting place in Rastrick will be Lillands Lane Field junction of Stoney Lane.
All the groups will be meeting at 9.30am
Community groups and volunteers can get involved. Equipment and bags will be provided, and the Council will help with the removal of anything collected at the end of the day.
Volunteers will need to dress for the occasion and litter pickers and bags will be provided by SITA.
Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Environment, Councillor Barry Collins, said: “The Big Clean week made a real difference to improving the look of local areas last year, and I’m sure the campaign will be just as successful this year.
