Poet Ian Bland paid a special visit to Lightcliffe CoE Primary School as part of the school’s literacy week.
One of the main literacy focuses at the Knowle Top Road school this year is reading.
Pupils have been sharing books and poems with parents, grandparents and volunteers who came into school to help them.
To help inspire the youngsters to develop their creative writing, they watched a performance from Ian and then took part in workshops with the children.
After eight years as a qualified primary school teacher, he decided to quit the classroom and started writing children’s poetry.
Since October 2000 he have worked as a professional children’s poet and performer and have visited literally hundreds of schools, libraries and festivals both here in the UK and all over the world.
Each class then produced their own anthologies by the end of the week which were performed in a celebration assembly.
The literacy week is just one of six special “creativity weeks” taking place this academic year at the school.
