Youngsters from Clifton Village Nursery took a trip to Brighouse Library for a story and singing session.
Organised by the Calderdale Libraries Discovery Team, 18 children aged between two and four attended along with their parents who were all eager to get involved in their child’s learning.
Childminder Rachel Owens works closely with the nursery based at St John’s Primary School and she also attended.
The intention of the visit was to promote young children’s communication, language and literacy skills and encourage a love of reading in addition to increasing their knowledge of the local environment. Heather Tankard from the nursery said: “The session was very interactive. The children enjoyed shouting magic words throughout stories, they were asked to make predictions of what would happen next and took turns in choosing picture cards to make up a story.
“Singing involved the whole group including parents and materials were added which children could stretch, move about and hide under and other props such as puppets were used to fully engage the children.”
