From obstacle courses to team events, youngsters at Field Lane Primary School, Rastrick, got active as part of National Sports Week.

As well as enjoying their time in the sun, coaches from the Midnight League in Calderdale and other organisations came into the school on Burnsall Road to give training sessions and talks on how to live a healthy lifestyle.

The week also incorporated the school’s sports day which involved the whole school community with families and parents coming to watch their child in action.

Vanessa Dear, head of school, said it was one of the best turn outs for the event with stalls being set up on the day.

“Everybody was part of sport week from the early year children all the way up to Key Stage Two.

“We had an inter school competition where the children were put into teams from all the different age groups.

“The idea wasn’t just about promoting an active lifestyle and how to stay healthy but about team spirit and working across school.

“The children also enjoyed the staff races between the teachers.”
