School’s festival set for its 14th year

St Joseph’s Primary School are gearing up for their 14th invitational football and netball festival.

The family fun day on Saturday June 22, will take place on the playing fields on Finkil Street, Brighouse, with parking available in the school’s car park.

Competitions will begin at 9.30am with the finals being played at 1.30pm and will feature football teams from junior school years from three to six and netball teams from a mix of year five and six.

One of the organisers, Heather Whittington, said: “The festival has gone from strength to strength; there are some 540 children entered in 54 teams representing 13 schools from the Calderdale area jostling for the honours on the day.

“The boys and girls taking part all have an enjoyable time and the feedback from the schools is always positive about the whole atmosphere of the day.

“A lot of organisation and assistance to make each year work takes place behind the scenes as always with events of this nature. So a huge thanks has to go to St Joseph’s PTSC members, parents past and present for their hard work and local businesses for their support and sponsorship.”

Not only will visitors have the excitement of the matches to look forward to but there will be a gala feel around the pitches with various stalls including nail art, temporary tattoos, face painting, tombola, bouncy castle, bacon butties, hot dogs, sweets, handmade chocolates, pocket money toy stall and much more.

Family entry fee is £2 and includes the days programme and parking.

The raffle this year features an XBOX 360 and Kinect bundle, Tastecard vouchers, meals to local restaurants, Czerwik hampers and much more. Tickets are £1 each available on the day with a special thanks to ASDA for their help.
