Sixth Form offers a range of extra curricular activities

On Thursday evening 1 December Brighouse High welcomes students to the sixth form college to meet teachers and students and find out about the courses and opportunities on offer for 2017. From next year a range of new A levels and vocational qualifications will be introduced to the college curriculum following government led changes to the exam framework. Brighouse High will continue to offer traditional Advanced level qualifications in Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences and Science based subjects. Business and ICT courses continue to be a popular offer and there will be new Technical qualifications available in Health and Social Care, Criminology and Travel and Tourism and Applied Law. From next year the sixth form will work in an innovative consortium arrangement with The Brooksbank School in Elland to broaden the curriculum and enrichment offer.

Brighouse High Sixth Form is one of the largest Post 16 instiutions in Calderdale and is proud of its record of extra curricular activities for students. Each year students get the opportunity to visit China or the USA and to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. We are also very proud of our debate and legal work and each year take part in the West Yorskhire mock trial competition; a great training ground for would be barristers and lawyers. Developing student enterpise is a high priority. Last year the Young Enterpise team made it all the way to the Finals at the Emirates stadium and this year’s team is hoping to replicate that success. The team are working to develop a part time work and volunteering website.

Student voice and leadership are an important element of 6th form life and the school captains take a lead in organising sports events and charity fund raising as well as working with staff to secure a positive learning experience for the student body
