As the country awaited the results of the General Election, pupils at Rastrick High School were anticipating the outcome of their own poll.

Elections were held for the school’s Senior Student Leadership Team (SSLT), whose members work with senior staff to represent their fellow students in addressing the important issues at Rastrick High.

The winners, who will take up their position for one year before the next elections, are: Adam Riaz and Robert McLaren (representing Year seven); Hamza Karim and Daryl Lappage (representing Year eight); Dominic Clough and Gigi Hinchliffe (representing Year nine); and Tanazia Gabriel-Fleary and Will Peterkin (representing Year 10).

Head teacher Steve Evans said: “It is important to recognise that all students who stood for election are an absolute credit not only to their form and year groups, but also to their families. All candidates spoke with confidence in their assemblies in delivering their manifestos, canvassing for votes fairly, and in good spirit.

“It was certainly a difficult choice for the students who had to decide who to vote for.”
