Children from four Brighouse schools have been learning about the constituent parts of the United Kingdom by taking part in a Four Nations Day.
Held at Brighouse High School’s sixth form centre in Parsonage Lane, year six children enjoyed various workshops from around the country.
They included pupils from St Andrew’s Junior School, Brighouse, St Chad’s CE Primary School, Hove Edge, St John’s Primary Academy, Clifton, and Withinfields Primary School, Southowram.
The morning workshops gave the children an opportunity to learn while making new friends, developing teamwork skills and being challenged by the tasks based on the theme of the four countries making up the United Kingdom.
The tasks included a quiz about Wales where they won pieces of a dragon puzzle, researching facts about Northern Ireland, Who Wants to be an English Millionaire game and a wall of facts quiz about Scotland.
The afternoon session gave each school an opportunity to showcase what they had learned about a chosen country. This included a presentation about great British inventors, a video about Welsh castles, Highland dancing and a presentation about Northern Ireland’s links with the Titanic.
The afternoon concluded with the singing of Land of Hope and Glory while the children waved Union flags which they had made earlier in the day.
