Youngsters experienced a day at the races at St Andrew’s Junior School, Brighouse, and raised much needed funds for their school.
More than 100 people attended the event with each horse being owned by the pupils and adults. After the races they were all wined and dined in the owners enclosure with cocktails and nibbles.
Teacher and organiser Becky Walmsley said: “At the end of the night the parents spoke of their enjoyment and the children really enjoyed cheering on the horses. One parent spoke of it being, ‘the best family night out in ages’.
“Everyone enjoyed placing bets on the horses by choosing their favourite name. We even had a horse named after our super choir the Rhythm Rockers. We made over £640, which was amazing and we have now been asked when the next race night will be organised.”
Before the event was held children enjoyed taking part in a competition to design the best jockey top and hat.
