Vicky Fletcher and Stuart Whitaker are upset after vandals struck at Waring Green Community Centre, Brighouse.

Vandals have left community centre members feeling shocked and upset following a recent attack on its new children’s playground.

Yobs daubed Brighouse’s Waring Green Community Centre’s new play area in orange spray paint in a night-time attack.

Caretaker Vicky Fletcher said she is “devastated” that vandals have caused havoc and said the play area is now an eyesore.

“It’s absolutely devastating to think we’ve been targeted deliberately,” Vicky said.

She said she received a telephone call to say a gang of teenagers were seen loitering at the Garden Road community centre on Monday evening.

“To think that people who we try so hard to help have done this to us is disgusting.

“The centre welcomes people aged two - 90 and we want this to be a happy and clean place to visit - not covered in graffiti,” she said.

The graffiti has been sprayed on the play area walls, floor and on special children’s mushroom play seats. The name “Della.P”, pictured, has been sprayed onto the wall.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “Anyone who has information or who may have seen people, possibly teenagers, behaving suspiciously outside the centre on the evening the offence took place is asked to contact PC 5736 Gemma Brett on 101.

“Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
