Natural born den makers create new hideaways

Families took a trip into the great outdoors as they used natural materials to create their own homemade den.

The session at Wellholme Children’s Centre on Bradford Road, Brighouse, saw youngsters piece together cloth fabrics and materials such as milk crates to create a hideaway for themselves.

Louise Thomas, deputy children centre’s manager in the Lower Valley said the day was aimed at developing skills and social interaction and to get parents involved with children centres.

“The idea was to get parents thinking about what they can do at home and about getting people involved learning with children rather than just sitting at home with a pen and paper.”

We spoke with parents and how they can make dens out of everything like putting a cloth over a table or sheet over a washing line.

“There were a lot of fun dens with plenty of variety.

“The feedback has been really positive and parents have suggested other ideas for the programme which we will look to take on board.”
