Hipperholme Grammar Junior School began 2015 with a new head teacher, following the retirement of Louise Reynolds, who had led the school for six years.

The appointment of Sarah Weller, previously head of key stage two, heralds a new dawn for the independent school, which is due to celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Mrs Weller said: “I am delighted to take up the headship after a long and happy teaching career at Hipperholme Grammar Junior School. With Mrs Reynolds and our talented team of staff, parents and pupils, we have created a unique learning environment, combining small class sizes and excellent teaching with traditional values.

“However, we are focussed on the future and this is the beginning of a new chapter which I am excited to be part of.

“Education is a journey and using our initials, I have introduced a new school motto which I feel is significant of the approach here at HGJS: Here Great Journeys Start.”

Mrs Weller, who grew up in Brighouse, still lives in the town with her husband and two teenage children.
